Seaside or Bust!

Ahhh, the beach - One of my favorite places in the world. And, since I don't have a tropical vacation planned anytime soon, I think I'll live vicariously through my clients. This is an invitation I designed for a client getting married in Mexico (yeah, I'm super J too). Enjoy!

Sweet & Savory

Don't you just love awesome couples who are truly in love and have a blast with each other? If your answer is yes, then let me introduce you to Kim and Derek - a super fun couple, both extreme foodies and 2 of my dear friends.

They are both chef instructors at L'École Culinaire, a culinary institution here in Memphis. Kim specializes on the savory side of things while Derek focuses on the sweet (opposites attract, right?). They met at work a couple of years ago and have been cookin' it up ever since!

Once Derek popped the question (with his Grandmother's incredible vintage engagement ring!) they got right to the planning and asked me to design their save the dates!

The ceremony is going to be held at Memphis Water Works, an impressive garden hardscapes space in the heart of the city with the ambience of a 100-year-old restored lumber shed (which makes it perfect for weddings!) And the reception is going to be at a Memphis Redbirds baseball game (on a fireworks night! I can't wait!)

To reflect the awesomely fun and exciting elements of their wedding - I decided to focus on the fireworks for the design. I thought it would be a great way to introduce her colors (aubergine and bright blue) and set the tone for a relaxed yet energetic event!

Also, they had their engagement photos taken by (the amazing) Molly Kennedy of Good Golly Photography! This first round was taken in the kitchens of L'École (where they fell in love!)

love the American Gothic spoof!

Molly sure does have a way of capturing the spirit of the couple! She's so incredibly talented and I absolutely love these pictures!
Happy Friday!

School Days Silhouettes

I got an interesting call the other day: One of my best friends was interested in having some silhouettes drawn... for her son's entire kindergarten class! Here's the deal - Every year the teacher of this particular class likes to give a silhouette of each child to the parents as a nice keepsake the celebrate the milestone occasion of graduating kindergarten (nice, right?) And every year the Room Moms (my bestie) are responsible for having them made. In the past, the Room Moms have done it the old-fashioned way: a projector, a huge piece of white paper and hand drawing each silhouette (life size, mind you)... So, in the interest of working smarter (not harder) I was commissioned to draw them (from photographs) and have them printed. I think they all turned out really well and everyone was excited about the finished product! Also, since I was doing so many at one time I was able to offer them a bulk discount (win-win for everybody!)

You can check out more of my silhouette work here and here and feel free to contact me directly if you are interested in having a custom silhouette for yourself!

Lily Grace turns 6!

A few weeks ago, a dear friend of mine was hosting a birthday party for her 6 year old daughter. Being creative spirits (both mother and daughter) they were having an artist themed party and they were in need of some custom invitations and accessories!

love the artist cake!

Custom party invitations.
Loved how the birthday girl was accepting donations to St. Jude in lieu of presents.

Custom labels for water bottles & custom stickers for goodie bags - they thought of everything!

To keep up Lily Grace's family and their adorable shenanigans be sure to check out their family blog here

Anchors Away!

I recently had a client contact me about a custom design with a nautical theme. She is getting married in Charleston, South Carolina and she wanted her save the date to reflect her venue (a former ferry terminal that overlooks the Charleston Harbor!)

Check it out on my Etsy Shop as well! Happy Friday!

Paris vs. New York

For my birthday my brother (hi, Chicken!) gave me an awesome book: Paris vs. New York - a Tally of Two Cities. He currently lives (and I used to) in New York and I had recently visited Paris, so it was a super thoughtful and creative present. The book is a friendly visual match between two cities told by a lover of Paris wandering through NewYork highlighting details, clichés and contradictions. It is written and illustrated by French graphic designer Vahram Muratyan and it is an absolute delight! I love the colorful illustrations and the whimsy content. Check out his blog here where you can purchase the separate illustrations or purchase the book here. Enjoy!

Celebration Central

I was contacted recently by a client who was interested in branding for her newly founded small business. The company is called Celebration Central, and it is a group party planning specialists who can help organize everything from a child's birthday party to a formal, elegant wedding.

My client wanted the design to reflect both "fun and fancy" - something that would be appropriate for the various events she will be able to accommodate.
ROUND 1
I started off the creative process showing the client a variety of designs. This will help both of us figure out the direction we should go on.
Client liked the stripes and the "bubble" in Option 3 - but she wanted more color. She also like the banner in Option 1. Option 2 was "too wedding" and the others were a little to child-like or for her. I love complete and total honesty with a client! It's the only way we can both end up satisfied with the final design.
ROUND 2
Using my clients suggestions, I proceeded with Round 2. She LOVEd the mix of all the bright colors.

ROUND 3 - FINAL DESIGN
A bright, fun, colorful design that entices the client and makes the card memorable!

Since the business is relatively new, we just started out with business cards - but I can't wait to see how we develop the branding further into marketing pieces, websites, blogs, etc!

She's Alive!

I haven't been blogging lately, so to kick-off a renewed sense of dedication to creating and posting I designed these fun spring letters! I think you could use these in all sorts of ways - in a nursery or child's room  - or maybe as stationery... Hmmmm - the possibilities are endless! Happy May!
